Tanzania Update

We are 18 days out from our departure.  I wish we were more
prepared at this point but we are not.  We are still going to be leading youth VBS for Seconded* youth in Dar-es-Salaam.  There will be families from Tanzania, Uganda (pronounced ooo-ganda), and Kenya.

I wanted to share with you the information we have for the groups to whom we will be sharing strategies for studying the Bible.  Josh Chance, Wycliffe Bible Translations coordinator in Tanzania, sent us information on the three groups.  We will have three days with each group and will teach the women and men separately.  It is not required but we (Lynne, Larry, Josh, and locals) feel the women will be more open to listening, talking and learning if the teaching is separate.  Lynne and I are trying to write scripts to provide the translators ahead of time so that they can work on any vocabulary problems.  Here are the groups and the books of the bible they have:

Burunge (boo  rung ee)  They have the entire New Testament, plus Ruth, Genesis, and Exodus)

Rangi (rahn-gee)  They have New Testament books of Luke, Mark, 1-3 John, Philippians, Colossians, Acts, Revelation, and OT books of Ruth, Jonah, and Genesis.

Mbugwe (em boog way)  They have Mark, Ruth, Jonah, and possibly Luke (by July).

We will be teaching some basic Bible study outlines and some basic inductive Bible study.

If you would like to say in touch or send us some words of encouragement, we will be using the mobile phone app WhatsApp! to text and make phone calls when we have WiFi.  E-mail Lynne (ninasl@charter.net) or me (larryinas@gmail.com) or FB Messenger us and we will give you our phone numbers if you don't have them.  They work great with WhatsApp!

We are humbled to have the privilege to share how to study the Bible with these folks.  Josh told us the villagers are overwhelmed that someone would travel this far to teach them to study the Bible.  Lynne and I know that we are investing in families and generations through our efforts. *Seconded families are families of translators that are loaned out by Wycliffe to other organizations to help with translations.

  There was great concern and consternation among our Rosemont Zambia group over the picture I reposted of the Spitting Cobra (dead) from a hut in Zambia.  Did a little research and found the following information from the Zambia Travel Guide .  I found it enlightening and informative.  Please take note of the highlighted portions. Snakes, spiders and scorpions...  Encounters with aggressive snakes, angry spiders or vindictive scorpions are more common in horror films than in Africa . Most snakes will flee at the mere vibrations of a human footstep whilst spiders are far more interested in flies than people. You will have to seek out scorpions if you wish to see one. If you are careful about where you place your hands and feet, especially after dark, then there should be no problems. You are less likely to get bitten or stung if you wear stout shoes and long trousers. Simple precautions include not putting on boots without shaking them empty first, and always checking the back

A little less than two months and we will be winging our way to Zambia. In order to volunteer there we have to present an invitation at Zamibian Immigration showing we were invited (picture to the left).   So looking forward to this adventure.  Coveting your prayers in the days before we depart that God will prepare our hearts for whatever work he will have us do.  The first word Jesus gave us in the Great Commission is 'go.'  We are doing that. Pray that he prepares our hearts to minister, and make disciples, and be discipled by those at New Day Orphanage. My beard is coming along well.  Stopped at the Ice Cream Club  last night for dinner and ice cream.  Proprietor Bill Garrett said, "you look wiser already Larry!"  I told him "my step-father used to tell me I was wise, but he added a word after wise   .  .  .  I think Jesus road into Jerusalem on one of those."   It has been an experience just not shaving.  When the wind blows my face feels fuzzy.

June 19 Addendum

June 19 th Addendum                Bible study with Kalanga today did not go as I expected it to go, but God had a plan.  My plan was we would take a passage of Scripture and separately study it using the ABC method.  Each morning we would compare notes and discuss the passage.  Kalanga did not understand what I had planned.  So I taught the passage to him.  Our passage today was Romans 8:28-30.   Check it out and you will see the challenge I faced, but God brought me through (Jeremiah 1:5-8 was actually a passage we referenced in our discussion).  Now that I know I will be leading Kalanga in a Bible study I can prepare better.                Yesterday our study was earlier in Romans 8 when Paul talks about the Holy Spirit interceding for us when we don’t know what to pray.  Kulanga share with me that when he was in Swaziland digging for amethyst, he ran out of food once.  He had not eaten or had water in several days.  Without money he could not purchase food or water in the l
