Meeting with a couple of friends once a week working through the discipleship book published by Francis Chan and David Platt called Multiply.   You can buy the book or download it for free at Multiply Movement  in PDF.     So why do I bring this up?  Well we are on the fourth week of this study.  Week 3 took us to a passage of Scripture I had heard preached numerous time as a Christian.  Take a minute and read James 3:1-12.  As I studied this passage for the book it hit me.  I have always heard this passage preached or taught in two sections.  The first section is taught about how "many should not desire to be teachers" because of the great responsibility of teachers.  The second section is used to illustrate the problems with gossip, back-biting, spreading rumors etc.  However, as I read the passage for Multiply, it hit me that verses 1-12 are together.  James is talking about the tongue of a teacher, and the fire it can set, or how it can steer those under the teache

Lynne and 3-week old Gavin      We met this past Sunday with the Rosemont team going to Zambia in June.  There are 18 total (not including the Ninases).  They share concerns, testimonies and got a run down on how their mission trip will go.  Lynne and I have almost paid for our trip, shots and visas.  Getting more excited about doing God's work in Africa every day.      Read an old post on the Tidwell blog about a typical day at New Day Orphanage  and wanted to share it with you.  You can find a link to the New Day Orphanage blog, as well as, the Tidwells and Wilcoxe s blogs on the right side of our blog.  Here is the excerpt from Darbi Tidwell: Have you ever wondered what goes on at an orphanage with 22 kids when they are all out of school for a month?! :) We have put together an activities schedule to keep the kids (and the staff!) busy! Here's a look at our April!  Mondays :  9am - 10am : Discipleship class for older kids with Mama Lala, Bible class for younger kid

Victoria Falls       This blog post thingy is something to get used to keeping up to date.  First, you are operating under the assumption that someone is reading it because they are interested, and second you forget to write in the first place.      We are about 7 weeks out from our departure date.  The church Zambian team is getting organized and beginning to meet/bond.  There are 19 on the team coming the third week of June from Rosemont Baptist Church .  The team is meeting this Sunday for their first meeting.  If you are part of the team, I hope to see you there.      The missionary in whose hut we will reside for our 6 week savanna adventure contacted me on Facebook, and we are now corresponding (touching base).  She will be leaving Zambia the day we arrive.  Also, we will be departing the day she is returning.  That old Barry Manilow song, "Two Ships that Pass in the Night" came to mind but isn't even close. Lynne, Deb and I will be in the Lusaka airport at th

A little less than two months and we will be winging our way to Zambia. In order to volunteer there we have to present an invitation at Zamibian Immigration showing we were invited (picture to the left).   So looking forward to this adventure.  Coveting your prayers in the days before we depart that God will prepare our hearts for whatever work he will have us do.  The first word Jesus gave us in the Great Commission is 'go.'  We are doing that. Pray that he prepares our hearts to minister, and make disciples, and be discipled by those at New Day Orphanage. My beard is coming along well.  Stopped at the Ice Cream Club  last night for dinner and ice cream.  Proprietor Bill Garrett said, "you look wiser already Larry!"  I told him "my step-father used to tell me I was wise, but he added a word after wise   .  .  .  I think Jesus road into Jerusalem on one of those."   It has been an experience just not shaving.  When the wind blows my face feels fuzzy.
