Visit from the Vet and Sunrise
July 5th
I just
finished last science class at NDO, since I will on my way home next
Friday. We talked conservation, re-use
and recycle. I gave them a tour of NDO and showed them how we compost everything,
including the animal “poop.” They
thought it was cool that we use manure to compost and fertilize. Then they started telling everybody we saw, “We
eat poop!” You have to love their
enthusiasm at least.
Martha
stood up in the corral when Lynne went to check on her early this morning. She was a little unsteady on her legs, but
she had a rough afternoon yesterday. She
went down in the tall grass, and they unceremoniously lifted her with a
tailgate lift and carried her across the compound to her corral. She none the worse for the wear, but it was not
her usual eat, sleep and poop afternoon.
When the kids and I went by the corral to talk about how cows work,
Martha was walking around the corral, eating, pooping and talking to her son
Bud. Thank you for keeping her in your
prayers. We know she is much better because her attitude is back. She will only let Noah get near her and pet
her.
It is
late afternoon in Zambia. Kalenga and
Enese are cooking up chips and fried chicken, one of our favorite meals. We have six new cows here at New Day. Well, technically we have 3 new cows with
calves yet to be born. As Lynne
explained it to me, “Some missionaries are packing it in and leaving Zambia,
and they asked if NDO wanted their cows.”
So they are not happily ensconced down near the Tidwell’s and the Wilcox’s
houses along with Bud, Martha’s loveable but troublesome son. When those cows drop those calves there will
be a lot of milking to be done her at NDO.
Blu hopes to make cheese for his cheese cellar. That would be awesome.
The
sunrise this morning was spectacular. I
am told that as we get further into the dry season, more dust is in the air and
the sunrises and sunsets get better each day.
I would love to see some clouds roll in for a sunrise or sunset before
we leave, but I am not holding my breath.
I saw some small clouds yesterday afternoon, turned around and they were
gone. Poof!!! Yes, it is that dry.
There is
nothing else to tell from this side.
Tomorrow is Saturday, and we have Kid’s Club in the afternoon. Only 4 day more days left to enjoy the kids,
the staff and the fellowship at NDO. I
am leading Bible study Sunday morning.
After doing the sermon (I almost said preaching the sermon. LOL) last
Sunday, Bible study will be easier and better since I have done it before. You just have to share and teach what God
lays on your heart. The veterinarian
from Choma came by this afternoon check out Martha. I am sure he will find her fit as a
fiddle. C U L8R!!!!
